I want to present this Pinarello Columbus Air - Gold gem with Campagnolo 50th Anniversary group set.
It was really a coincidence to found it not far from my home. This bike was made in 1983 by direct order to Mr. Giovanni Pinarello for clients son. He wanted the most expensive bike for his 16 years old son. Giovanni Pinarello said him that they couldn't do it in gold and offered him Champagne pearl gold paint from their Pinarello catalog. The client insisted. His son supposed that from this bike was born an idea for gold exhibition bikes for a New York trade show, but first presented in Milan. The number on bottom bracket is 83 6. This was the sixth Pinarello air frame made with Columbus Air tubes. It was equipped with Campagnolo 50th anniversary group set from that year. When I bought this bike from his son, the bike was without seat post. He broked it in 1984 and from that time the bike was stored in his mother living room. After many years he sent the seat post in Pinarello factory, but it never came back. He said that was engraved vertically Pinarello on it. He took this bike just few times, because he told me that this bike was not good for training and races. The frame wasn't hard enough for hard climbs. This frame was built more for flat TTs, because they try to did it more aerodynamic. My opinion is that this bike is an exhibition bike. I little cleaned and refreshed it.
